Sonia Gandhi made the day for outgoing Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rajani Patil | India News
Patil was sitting in the Central Hall of Rajya Sabha, since the House had adjourned over disruptions, when she got a message saying former party chief Sonia Gandhi was looking for her. Patil left the Central Hall in a huff and met the party matriarch who was leaving for her residence after Lok Sabha adjourned for the day.
Sonia Gandhi asked Patil to accompany her in the car to her residence at 10, Janpath, and had a chat with the outgoing MP from Maharashtra on the way. The former party chief is learnt to have told Patil that even while she will no longer be a member of the Upper House, the party stands with her.
But the small hitch for Patil was that when the two reached their destination, they realised she had left behind her purse and phone in the Central Hall and obviously her vehicle too was parked there. In a hurry to attend Sonia Gandhi’s call, Patil had forgotten to pick up her bag that had all the personal belongings.
So, Sonia Gandhi, who also did not carry any money on her, borrowed some from her driver and managed to give Rs 120 to Patil so that she could get back to the House. Meanwhile, another Congress MP Kumari Selja who was sitting in the Central Hall held on to Patil’s bag.
Patil, walked over to Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, which is next door to Sonia Gandhi’s residence and managed to get a vehicle to drop her back to Parliament House. Once back, she was all smiles and sat around for long in the Central hall and happily narrated her story.
She held on to the Rs 120 that she got from Sonia Gandhi and plans not to spend it but keep it as a memento to remember the day.
