Man injured in College station stabbing in stable condition, 1 male in custody – Toronto
A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing someone at College station on Monday afternoon.
The male victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is now in non life-threatening condition, according to Toronto police.
Officers said they received a call at 12:40 p.m. for reports of a man being stabbed.
When cops arrived on the scene they found the victim suffering from a serious stab wound and a significant amount of blood loss, said Const. David Hopkinson.
Jordan LeBlanc, a passenger who witnessed the incident while waiting on the subway platform, said he heard a commotion and then saw a man scream and run after stabbing another man with a screwdriver.
“It was an intense situation and we were all in shock. He was really trying to stab him,” said LeBlanc.
CBC employee Howard Goldenthal saw the whole incident unfold on his commute to work, as well.
“The platform was completely covered in blood,” he said.
Goldenthal said it seemed as if the stabbing happened on the train but police are saying that it could’ve happened on the platform.
Shortly afer the incident, TTC special constables found a man they believed was involved.
After a pursuit on foot and a brief struggle, they were able to take the man into custody before handing him over to police.
While officers were able to apprehend the man, LeBlanc said it was other quick thinking passengers on the platform who stepped in to help prevent the situation from getting worse.
“No authority was on scene yet and this guy could have stabbed anybody at any point,” he said, adding that a “man restrained the guy trying to stab the other passenger and a group of people helped to hold him down.”
LeBlanc said a nurse who was waiting for a train on the platform also helped apply pressure to the wound until paramedics could arrive.
Police say they have recovered a weapon from the scene and will continue to investigate.
Service resumed on Line 1 just before 4:30 p.m., four hours after police shut service down between Union and Bloor stations for the investigation.
ALL CLEAR: The delay at College Station has cleared and subway service has resumed on Line 1.#TTC
